The Networking and Information Technology (NetIT) Lab belongs to the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), Barcelona Tech. The lab was created at the end of 2013 by highly skilled personnel from the Department of Computer Architecture at UPC, with the objective of conducting cutting-edge research along three interrelated areas in the ICT field:

  1. The exploration of new paradigms and creative architectures exploiting the power of smartly combining software and virtualization, including Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), Software Defined Networking (SDN), and especially, the promising lines behind their convergence.
  2. The design space of an Internet of Things (IoT), and exploring the greater vision of an Internet of Everything (IoE), including complex research challenges such as the creation of an Internet of You (IoY).
  3. Exploring the cross-stratum security requirements that NFV, SDN, and their interplay with IoT/E/Y will need in order to unfold their true potential.

The lab is strongly focused on applied research and on producing tangible impact on industry, by fostering technology transfer and industrial contracts leading to technology innovation. The lab has solid liaisons with key actors in industry, and is placed in state-of-the-art facilities located close to Barcelona, thereby creating the right environment for applied research in the ICT sector.

Prospective researchers or students that would like to enroll either in our Ph.D. or Master programs can go to the Contact tab and send us a CV via email, since we will soon open new positions at the lab.

* The paper "Key ingredients in an IoT recipe: Fog Computing, Cloud Computing, and more Fog Computing" will be published in the 19th International Workshop on Computer-Aided Modeling Analysis and Design of Communication Links and Networks (IEEE CAMAD), Athens, Greece, December 2014.

* The European project SECURED will be reviewed in Brussels in December 2014.
